Fine Art Wedding Album | Anchorage Wedding Photography

3 Feb

New samples for 2010 are slowly but surely starting to roll in and I just received my first sample album of the year! It is beautiful! I tried a new album vendor so I’m always hesitant to see what kind of funky colors the prints end up looking like (you have no idea how many shades of magenta you never want to see!) Anyway, I had nothing to fear with this one! This album is beautiful! Yippee! The color was exactly what I was expecting and the craftmanship looks really well done.

This sample is the Fine Art Album. This style comes standard with Package III or can be an upgrade to the Coffee Table album included in Package II. The cover has three cameo photographs and is a duo-tone leather combination. The pages are thicker and sturdier than the basic coffee table album and for this sample I chose a linen texture. I love it! The album comes with it’s own black storage box and slipcover to keep everything protected and in perfect condition.

Below are a few photos and I also included some shots of it next to a coffee table album to give you a feel for the differences.  These pages are perfect for designing full page spreads across the center line without significant image loss.  The transition is smooth and almost indistinguishable!

Alisa & Casey | Anchorage Wedding Photographer

14 Sep

Alisa & Casey are married…finally!  At least that’s what their friends and family were saying!  They’ve been a couple for a long while and everyone was very happy to help them tie the knot and celebrate.

They were married downtown and the party quickly moved over to the Hotel Captain Cook.  Alisa is also a photographer so she made sure she had a beautiful suite at the hotel for all her “getting ready” shots.  Yay!  (okay, I just have to say that one more time. Yay!)  She also had a surprise bouquet that was absolutely gorgeous even if there was a bit of a stressful moment involved!

The reception was a definite party.  The ambiance at the hotel was crazy dark and gave us some good opportunities for tricked out lighting styles.  Too much fun!

Congratulations Alisa & Casey!

Chelsea & Sam got married! | Anchorage Wedding Photographer

18 Aug

Chelsea & Sam were married at Alpenglow at the top of a neverending dirt road in Arctic Valley. The day was spectacularly sunny and warm and beautiful! A dream day for sure!

Chelsea is one of those people who has a special knack for making you feel like you’ve known her forever. She and her merry band of bridesmaids welcomed me into their group and I spent a full day following them around from the hair salon to the mountain top. It was on the mountain top where I first caught sight of Sam and got to witness the perfect wedding gift — Mr. T cuff links! They were a present from his bride to be and Sam was ecstatic.

Sam & Chelsea were married outside in front of their family & friends.  The reception was kicked off with plenty of dancing including my favorite dance of the evening, Sam & his mother dancing to Sweet Home Alabama.

Chelsea, you are a stunning bride!  Please don’t use the photo of the two of you strangling each other as your Christmas Card!

Here is to a lifetime of fun, love & laughter!

A Wedding on Jewel Lake | Anchorage Wedding Photographer

15 Aug

Elaina and Seth were married on Friday, the last day of July. They are blessed with two beautiful and supportive families who helped pull off a very perfect wedding day for these two.

The ceremony was held in a private location hidden away on Jewel Lake. Although the day started out with a tiny bit of sprinkling rain, the sun decided to make it’s appearance just in time for the ceremony– perfect!

Thank you Elaina & Seth for letting me share in such a beautiful day with you. Congratulations on your new life together!

Alisa & Casey | Anchorage Engagement Photography

5 Aug

Last week I headed down to Turnagain Arm to meet with Alisa & Casey and capture some engagement photos for their upcoming August wedding. We picked a beautiful but crazy day to venture out next to the inlet! The wind was knocking us off our feet so after a brief meetup at Beluga Point, we opted to head inland and find some wind breaks. We tucked into the trees and really lucked out with some great locations. The weather was remarkably tame until the rain clouds decided to let loose but fortunately we were wrapping things up. It was perfect timing, anyway, to free Casey from the joy of never ending photographs!

Be sure to check out Alisa if you are in need of a photographer down in the Kenai Peninsula. She will be relocating there after the wedding and getting back into the groove of photography sometime thereafter!

Congratulations Alisa & Casey! Here are some favorites from the day.

On the Road Again | Wedding Photography

18 May

It’s time! Our year down south is fast drawing to a close. We have one more week with my family and then the boys and I hop a plane for Idaho. We get to spend at least two weeks with Dave’s family and “the cousins” before striking out on our camping adventure up the Alcan (Alaska-Canadian Highway) back to Anchorage. We are going to be towing a pop-up camper and plan to spend a little over a week on the drive. Can’t wait!

Hank, the psycho barn kitten, will be joining us. I’m not too sure how well that will go over with all the campground dogs! It should make for some interesting evenings!

Anyway, all this travel means I may be more difficult to reach for the next month. I will still have my cellular phone and if you need to speak with me immediately that will be your best bet. If you can wait a day or two for an answer, feel free to send me an email. I will be checking it; I’m just not sure how often.

Here’s one more quick post before the movers come to pack away my computer. Again, another lovely southern wedding from last summer shot with Mark of Mark Lawley & Associates. Mark actually had the most beautiful bridal portrait gorgeously framed and displayed at the reception. It was a very traditional portrait in her family’s ornate garden. The piece was quite stunning! But then to mix things up she also did a “fearless bridal” style session out on a worksite with construction equipment and great industrial elements. Quite the dichotomy! She definately had the best of both worlds!

Here are a few favorite shots that I captured from her wedding.

An Alabama Story | Wedding Photography

30 Apr

I thought I’d post one more of the weddings that I helped shoot while in Alabama.  This was the very first wedding that I photographed with Mark Lawley & Associates.  I told Mark how common it was to have outdoor weddings back in Alaska, and all he had to do was have me follow him around one time to realize why southern brides love air conditioning!  It was ridiculously hot!  Summer hadn’t even gotten into full swing yet but you could easily see how an outdoor wedding could knock a bridal party off their feet!  Thankfully, the rest of the summer, the weddings I helped with were all indoors!

This particular couple was going on an Alaskan cruise for their honeymoon, so I felt right at home meeting the bride for the first time.  She was surrounded by a wonderful group of friends and we had an easy morning spending time at the salon.  They chose to have a “first look” where the bride and groom see each other prior to the ceremony and it was a beautiful opportunity.  I had never participated in a wedding with a “first look” before and had the good fortune of witnessing several more before the summer was over.  What a great idea!  I wish I had thought of that with my wedding.

When we arrived at the church we were joined by Keith and Carla,  additional members of Mark’s Photography team, who took over with the bulk of photographing the wedding.  I was able to step back and watch some seasoned pro’s in action.  It was a great start to a wonderful summer!

More from the Southlands | Wedding Photography

29 Mar

Following is another wedding from down south that I helped shoot for Mark Lawley & Associates. This bride was totally at ease with getting married and completely adorable to boot! Their timeline for the day was well thought out and they alotted plenty of time for all aspects of “getting ready”. The ceremony and reception took place at Ross Bridge Resort which, for those of you avid golf fans, boasts one of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail courses. The hotel was beautiful, the entire wedding party was so welcoming and the bride, most especially, was such a lovely person. I love walking away from a wedding feeling so rewarded for the people I’ve had the pleasure to meet and the fact that they allowed me in to such an important day in their lives.

What I Did On My Summer Vacation | Southern Weddings

17 Mar

Prior to the start of our trip down south I had the good fortune of meeting Mark Lawley of Mark Lawley & Associates. Mark allowed me the wonderful opportunity of photographing weddings with his team based out of Birmingham, AL. They kept me busy throughout the summer and shared their vast knowlege that comes from years of experience in the business! The last time I had the opportunity to photograph a wedding as a team was back in 1999 when I still shot film! Needless to say, I picked up several fun new techniques this go around!

Mark’s approach to team shooting is such an awesome and comprehensive way of capturing the story of a wedding. After my first wedding with these guys, I was already excited about all the possibilities for weddings in Anchorage. I’m so thankful I was able to gain this experience but more importantly I had the opportunity to work with and develop friendships with some great fellow photographers! Thank you to Mark, Keith, Carla, Randi, Maggie and now baby Noah!

I’ll be posting images from some of these weddings over the next couple of weeks. The first batch is from the last wedding I photographed with Keith. My favorite images were from the dance floor. We were taking turns working some backlighting and trying to keep up with the dancers!

Earlier in the day, there were some beautiful moments captured. The first image to follow shows the father of the bride quietly looking out the window while we were wrapping up the formals.  Also, there is also a fun moment when the flower girl gives the bride a high five after the ceremony — total cuteness!

Engagement Book – Anchorage Engagement Photographer

28 Jan

While in Alabama I’ve been researching every type of Album company I can find. I’ve finally settled on three great great vendors that I am very excited about. I just received my first small album with panoramic spreads and I’m thrilled about the opportunities for this style. It is a beautiful excellently crafted piece that is great for an engagment album or parent album. The pages are thick and sturdy just like a flush mount wedding album but the press printed style allows the album to be offered at a more exciting price. Sizes, however, are limited up to 8 inches square. The paper can be linen, pearl, or semi-gloss and the full page spreads are gorgeous. I am seriously digging this book!

Doing That Beckstead Thing!

1 Jan

I spent an awesome three days attending the Shoot With Beckstead workshop here in Birmingham, Alabama.  What fun!  It added another realm of thinking to my composition.  Mark Lawley hosted the event and was kind enough to hook us up with two incredibly vivid locations to shoot.

My mind is now swirling with all the new ideas and inspiration that I was able absorb from David.  David is a world renowned photographer who focuses primarily on destination weddings.  His work is brilliant.  Check it out.  www.davidbeckstead.com

Happy New Year! | Anchorage Wedding Photography

30 Jan

Shuree & Kameron decided to celebrate the New Year in style. They tied the knot on New Year’s Eve! The evening was incredible filled with non-stop dancing and fun. To top off the evening they received a send off complete with sparklers and tons of reveille. Congratulations to a gorgeous couple and may 2009 be a great start to your new life together.

De & Joe | Anchorage Wedding Photography

9 Sep

Some of my favorite shots from a recent wedding. De & Joe had an incredible day. There was hopping, skipping, running, jumping, a few tears, and a whole lot of laughs.– Did I mention that was just the ceremony! The reception added to the adventure with a little re-enactment by the groomsmen of Adam Sandler’s “The Wedding Singer”. Nice!
Congratulations De & Joe!

Recent Engagement Session | Anchorage Wedding Photographer

15 Jul

These are a couple of my favorites from a recent E-session near the coastal trail. The couple, Shelbi Lynne and Sean, picked the location and the rocks and beach made for a beautiful backdrop. The wind was blowing just enough to catch Shelbi Lynne’s hair and add a little something dynamic to the photos.
